digital preservation policy

Digital Preservation Policy

The Muthanna Journal of Agricultural Sciences (MJAS) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, accessibility, and availability of all published scholarly content.

Preservation Strategy

To guarantee permanent access to its publications, the journal utilizes multiple digital preservation and archiving mechanisms, including:

  • Participation in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) for decentralized and distributed digital preservation of journal content published through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
  • Regular backup procedures for the journal database, article files, and website content on secure institutional servers maintained by Al Muthanna University.
  • Persistent article identification through the assignment of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to published articles to ensure stable and reliable access.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

The PKP Preservation Network provides free preservation services for OJS journals by creating distributed archival copies of published content across multiple preservation nodes. This ensures continued access to journal articles even in the event of system failure or data loss.

Additional information about the PKP Preservation Network is available at:
PKP Preservation Network

Content Availability

All archived content remains openly accessible through the journal website in accordance with the journal’s open-access policy. In the event that the journal ceases publication, all preserved content will remain accessible through the preservation systems and institutional archives.

Website and Metadata Preservation

The journal maintains:

  • Regular system and database backups,
  • Preservation of article metadata,
  • DOI registration records,
  • and indexing metadata supplied to abstracting and indexing services.

Policy Review

This Digital Preservation Policy is periodically reviewed and updated by the editorial board to ensure compliance with international publishing and archiving standards, including the requirements of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
